London

Post by Sunbriel on Tue 27 Apr 2010, 13:51

London is the capital of England and the United Kingdom. It is the UK's largest and most populous metropolitan area.

----

Kuchiki Byakuya stepped out of the Senkaimon on the wet street of London. The sky was gray and it was raining heavily. Captain's clothes was completely soaked in few moments. Displeased with this unusual place full of people with black things above their heads and gloomy faces which mirrored the bad weather.

Kuchiki Byakuya, you are to go in Western Europe to verify the information on a group of so-called Arrancar. A small group of your subordinates can accompany you. Yamamoto-soutaichou's arrogant behavior was really getting on noble's nerves in the past couple of months. He very well knew that Byakuya was short on his squad members, since the most of them were sent in death in Rukongai, and his vice-captain was no where to be found.

Captain allowed himself a light sigh. He felt uncomfortable in this place. It was not the presence of hollow, because he couldn't sense any. The city, the people - it all felt strange and unknown and hostile. Byakuya couldn't tell why he felt that way. It was something deeper. Like it reminded him of an unpleasant memory from the childhood. He decided to ignore the feeling and his thoughts. It was bothersome. For the sake of the sanity and clear head, he shut his brain up, and shunpo'd on nearby building to get a better view of where he was.

Byakuya's black hair was sticking to his face, making him look younger - child-like. Dark eyes searched the city, calm and emotionless as ever. There is no sign of Arrancar. What a waste of time. A frown on his pale wet face was barely visible, but it was there. He remained standing there like a statue, hoping for any sign of a Hollow.

A door opened up on the Big Ben. At the roof of it a hell butterfly made its way out, followed by a skinny shinigami of silver hair and yellow eyes.

For some odd reason he was asked to find Captian Byakuya and aid him with the mission he was given, but that was everything that e was told, having no idea of what it was that he was supposed to even do.

Orochi closed his eyes for a second as he searched for Byakuya's reiatsu. He was a captian level, and literally considered one of the strongest. It wouldn't be that difficult to find.

Orochi used shunpo and headed towards were he had felt the captain's presence. Jumping form roof to roof, a lone figure that seemed to appear and disappear in the gloomy dark skies. The rain had gotten him wet.

The rain had made the shinigami looked like a mere silhouette in the middle of the sky, for those who could see him at least.

"Kuchiki taichou... I was asked to aid you, though they refused to give me much details of the reasons you were sent to the human world..." A careful tone, Byakuya was one of the captains that had orochi talk like this form time to time, then again, they were in a mission. Work first, anything else would have to come later.

Byakuya felt the presence of another shinigami in the distance, and as the shinigami came closer he relised it was Kin Orochi. The captain was not surprised by the 13th seat's sudden arrival. He wouldn't have expected anything less from Captain Commander. Of course, if it was the old man who sent the other Shinigami on this mission.

Noble's eyes narrowed slightly in annoyance. Did he send Orochi to keep an eye on him? Was he just disposing off the ones who he may see as a threat? The dark blue eyed shinigami couldn't say. He straightened his back and smoothed his expression.

"Kin Orochi." Byakuya nodded slightly, and then continued. "I, myself, had not been supplied with any information on the subject. I had been told to confirm the existence of another group of Arrancar at this location, but nothing more."

His focus returned on the city below them. The clouds were very low, making it feel like he was standing in the water. If it had been some other occasion, he might have enjoyed being there, since the rain and dirty streets reminded him of the place he was for some reason so fond of - Rukongai was the place that held his happiest memories. It suddenly felt so nostalgic. The smell of the air, the gloomy faces, the darkness that surrounded it.

As the sound of a big near-by clock rang in his ears, he realized, with no little surprise, that it was already 7 pm. The dark blue eyes narrowed again. The cold wind bit his cheeks and crawled down his wet body. It had been almost all day since he arrived to London, but there hadn't been any sign of an Arrancar.

Bothersome.

Orochi's face turned into that of a pondering man who had just heard something weird. Hearing Byakuya say that he himself was not really given any reason either was, strange.

What could the captain commander be thinking of doing now? Sure sending off Orochi was more or less normal, he knew he was a low seated one, and thus a recon mission form him, even if it meant suicide made sense. But to send off a captain, one of the big guns, in order to confirm the existence of a group of arrancars, rather than being sent off BECAUSE there are arrancars made little to no sense to him.

Realizing that his facial expression showed, something that you could call doubts, Orochi straightened himself up. To doubt the captain commander was not something they were allowed to even show, everybody followed the orders, no questions asked. Yamamoto had always been a wise tactician and whatever he had done was usually done with utmost care, even if it made little to no sense at times.

Orochi turned his gaze t the floor and looked down at the wet streets, at the water that ran down the stairs; listening to that soothing sound that the rain provided them with. It was peaceful to say the least, at the same time, it set off a gloomy mood, the image itself ominous, and even more so once the Big Ben rang. It was now 7 pm.

Byakuya's eyes seemed to have drifted off to some far place, true, his eyes were vigilant and searching, or at least that's what it looked like. However, upon closer inspection, it almost seemed like the captain was staring down at nothing, lost in thoughts, at least, that's what Orochi thought had happened.

Orochi moved forward, in order to stand next to the captain, as he stared off into the horizon. "I don't feel anything..." orochi said, even though he knew that byakuya was most positively better than him at sensing reiatsu, he was a captain after all. The possibly only captain against whom he would most definitely be better than at sensing reiatsu would have to be Kenpachi.

"Didn't sense anything when I crossed half the town in order to find you either... Maybe they are hiding their reiatsu?" orochi asked Byakuya, in hopes to at least strike a conversation, however short with him while they kept their senses in high affinity for the task at hand.

((gomen nasai, goeman nasai, gomen nasai for the late reply!! I'm to blame it on the source of all evilness - school!!))

Captain's eyes snapped to the lower-ranked Shinigami. Byakuya'd been using himself as a bait for the whole day. If it hadn't been for Orochi, he would've completely forgotten about it. How careless of me to forget. He was so busy with trying to figure out why the Captain Commander sent him here of all the people that he left his guard down. If there really were some Arrancar, they would've come out the moment I stepped in the Real World. The possibility of them having a strategy is very unlikely. Moreover, there is no reason for them not to attack. Byakuya frowned slightly. Which means Yamamoto-soutaichou indeed is trying to get rid of us.

"Were you given any orders but to aid me?" he was expecting Orochi to say something like 'I was given an order to stay in Real World until the mission is completed'. To Byakuya that would mean everything - that would probably give him all the answers he needed. And, oh boy, he, Kuchiki Byakuya, the Head of one of the four Great noble houses, would go against the orders, return to Soul Society, even if he knew what would await him there. In one hand, if that was the case, the Captain Commander actually helped him. But that could also mean something big was going on in Soul Society and Captain Commander wanted Kuchiki Byakuya out of his way, whatever that meant, for as long as possible. But what could it be? And what does Kin Orochi has to do with all of it?

Noble realized he was clenching his fists and was breathing faster. He composed his features quickly and shook off the bad feeling. His dark blues eyes were still focused on Orochi, waiting for a reply. You have poisoned my mind, Yamamoto Genryusai.

Orochi was by now Utterly confused at what was going on. Byakuya had that strange pensive face that showed no emotion, and yet that same expression carried with it a grim aura.

Something was not right. Orochi felt it, almost as a sixth sense, a gut feeling of sorts that let him know that danger was at bay. He didn't know what was amiss, he just knew something was amiss. Answering Byakuya's question would be the decisive factor, and he felt it, the answer he was going to give would inversely unlock the locks of Pandora's box.

"I was given the orders to act under your command, or my own discretion depending on the situation, mainly in a way that would aid your mission.... nothing else..."

A neutral tone lingered in Orochi's demeanor; whatever was amiss at this moment, he would probably find out, all he needed was the courage to even ask the captain.

Orochi allowed the words to sink, three seconds of silence in all "Kuchiki taicou... is there something wrong?" He asked straightforwardly. If he were to attempt avoiding to answer or lie, he would have to get it out of Byakuya, after all, being one that was asked to aid him had placed Orochi in the same boat as Byakuya in all.

Re: London

Byakuya fixed his jaw, his cold gaze piercing the clueless pedestrians. ...not giving me a straight answer, it seems. For some reason Orochi was very careful of what he said. Was he afraid of the captain? Or maybe of someone else? What was the case? At any rate, he couldn't leave his guard down.

Just as the captain was about to answer Orochi's question, a sudden blow set him flying into the wall. Warm liquid crawled down his left cheek and left arm. The dark blue eyes widened in shock. Byakuya quickly unsheathed his katana and took a defensive stance. What in the world was that? There wasn't a hint of anyone approaching, so how could have that happened?

They were surrounded by darkness. Cold wind was biting his wet body. Shivers went down Byakuya's spine as he sensed a warm breath on his skin. If he hadn't been Kuchiki Byakuya, the master of shunpo and a respectful close combat fighter, he would have been a goner. But since Byakuya was who and what he was, he managed to avoid the death blow and get away with only a cut on his right shoulder. His shihakusho and haori were already completely soaked with blood.

"Tch...!" To bring Kuchiki Byakuya in this position... A deep frown appeared on his face, breaking the calm mask into pieces. "Chire, Senbonzakura!" cold, but prideful words pierced the air with which the katana scattered into thousands of pink blades, surrounding the captain and the lower-ranked Shinigami, forming a wall that acted as a shield from whatever was attacking them. ...there is only one posibility... Dark eyes snapped to Orochi. ... Vasto Lorde.

It had been said that Vasto Lorde, highest level of Hollow, possesed powers grater than a captain's. But in reality they knew very little about them. The information had not been confirmed yet. Had they already encountered a Vasto Lord? But from what was happening then, there was no other explanation to it. The captain, for the first time in his long life, wasn't sure what his response should be to Orochi's question. Yes, there was something wrong, and the lower-ranked Shinigami could have figured that out by now. But what exactly was going on and any other questions that Kin might have had in his head - questions screaming to be answered to, as in 'what is attacking them' - the captain was rather clueless at that point himself.

Kuchiki Byakuya was prepared for the battle, but what was he to say to Kin Orochi? He wasn't sure if he'd win this. Was he to send the Shinigami for help? To inform the Captain Commander? The blood kept flowing down his cheek, shoulder and arm, mixing up with the rain that was still falling down from the dark clouds that covered the sky.

The noble looked away, focused his gaze on the darkness in front of him, and let the word dift off in the air, with a voice as dark and as cold as ever.

"Run."

It all happened in a flash, before he knew it Byakuya had been literally sent flying towards a wall. The captain looked disgusted, not in the sense of extreme hate, but a mild frown on his face, he did not like that he was placed in such a position as the one he had now found himself in.

Almost instantly Byakuya had unleashed his zanpakutou, which was now swirling around the two of them, protecting them form whatever was around.

"Run" He heard the captain say, but at this point Orochi was ready to ignore Byakuya's command. As soon as Orochi turned his back around he would most definitely be hit, and leaving the captain alone was not something he was letting himself do; especially because leaving him would not be of help. If anything, Byakuya could call for reinforcements, or at least ask for a limiter remover.

"I'm not running..." Orochi told Byakuya with conviction in his face, "It is our duty to protect and fight to the death..." Orochi took out his zanpakutou as he stood in battle position, if a captain was to unleash his zanpakutou, then surely orochi would need to unleash his to even have a chance to fight anything.

"Any idea... of what we might be facing?" orochi asked, not out of obliviousness as to what they were fighting but to confirm that what they were fighting was indeed a vasto lorde. Of course none of the two had a way of actually making sure that this was a vasto lorde, but judging from the fact that Byakuya had just been thrown to the wall, even with the nobleman's excellent shunpo abilities, quick feet, and fast reactions; it was almost obvious that the first suspect they would have would be just that.

"We might need to requests our limiters removed..." Orochi said out loud, almost stating the obvious to the captain, though it never really did hurt to remind anybody anything.

Orochi stood there with his zanpakutou still sealed. Of course, he was being stubborn, nobody really knew that he had unleashed his shikai, not that anybody in soul society had ever seen it and lived to talk about it, nor did he really show it off. It was his own secret, and something that he had always left as his last resort. If the situation called for it, he would have to show the captain his shikai. But that would only happen if there was really no helping it.

"Can you feel where it is?" Orochi the asked the captain as he attempted to feel out the enemy's reiatsu.

"I'm not running..." Byakuya wasn't surprised. He wouldn't expect nothing less from Kin Orochi, a loyal Shinigami as Byakuya saw him.

"Kin Orochi. You do realize this is disobeying of a direct order and that a punishment would be inevitable for such an action?" captain's deep, calm and strict as ever voice echoed in the darkness. Of course he knew the answer. Of course he knew Orochi would stay no matter what the captain said. But he was in no position to protect another Shinigami. Because the thing they were facing was no ordinary enemy.

Byakuya squeezed the hilt of his, now released, Zanpakuto. Nothing on his body gave away his frustration and anxiety. The captain was too proud and too sure in himself to admit the hand of fear touched his heart. But the noble kept his head as clear as he could, working on a plan. Well, there wasn't so much to plan. He didn't know what the enemy was capable of, what his abilities were. He could only assume in was a...

"Vasto Lorde. But judging by the tone of your voice and a slight distort in your reiatsu, you already know we are most likely facing one." captain paused. What if there were multiple enemies? Not just one as he assumed? There was definitely a possibility they were facing a group of Arrancar, Espada-leveled, highly skilled and agile. But to catch a captain off gourd like that...? Maybe it was his fault for not noticing. Had his sense gone dull? No, that was out of the question.

Byakuya was fighting his pride as a Shinigami and a noble. How could he have been caught off guard? The man felt a slight shame. He even started to question his own capability.

Unforgivable. And it was unforgivable. He would never forgive himself for thinking about such things, especially since he was in such a situation. And he would never forgive the enemy for making fun of him, and making him seem unworthy of his position - as a captain of 6th Division and as a head of one of four great noble houses.

"I am surprised you have not noticed by now." captain made a longer pause. His deep dark stared at the darkness. "There are no limiters." He sounded a bit distracted. The wind started blowing harder. His whole body was ice-cold from the wind and water. His already pale lips looked even paler with the long black hair sticking to his face. If the captain had been lying on the ground with his eyes closed and body motionless, he would have looked as though he was a corpse.

Suddenly, captain's arm moved towards the empty space on his left. "There!" his voice no more than a whisper sounded somehow excited, at least in his views of the word. The pink blades followed the arm and clashed with an unknown object.

And there it was. The enemy they were facing. They could finally see what it was. And the sight made Byakuya grit his teeth and narrow his eyes.

What in the world...

"There are no limiters" Byekuya had said at Orochi's motion.

No limiters? why would they stop that regulation? I realize that they had made it easier to remove before... but none altogether? has the situation become this bad?

It didn't really matter at this moment, what they were facing had ,after all, taken Byakuya by surprise, a captain who was considered among the strongest. A nobleman who was viewed in high regards by others.

The captain then masterfully attacked the invisible enemy, making it suddenly appear in front of them. The visions of it were shocking. Orochi's mind had momentarily blanked out as he stood frozen at the sight.

Running, an option that Byakuya had given him after making it a direct order. "I could obey you... and run... But that would probably go against Yamamoto Taichou's orders of helping you. Kuchiki taichou... Which one do you think weights heavier?" Orochi said as he attempted to regain his composure.

Before the two stood an arrancar, a ripped mask that covered only the mouth and left the eyes uncovered, resembling a ninja mask. Although dressed in white, this man seemed to have had given up brute strength in order to gain stealth. Lean looking, with features that orochi could only see as aids for speed, and stealth.

The arrancer stood there quietly, almost like a shy character.

"Following your orders... would surely come with punishment, and disobeying yours would not be taken against me under this specific circumstance"

Orochi gripped his zanpakutou tighter.

"I'll distract him...."

Orochi then rushed forward and used shunpo, appearing directly in front of the enemy and then moving to the side, in hopes that the enemy's gaze would follow him, once he had the enemy's attention, Orochi swung at the creature, hoping that he could force it to expose its back toward the captain.

However, as orochi attempted to do this, the arrancar dodged and went out of sight again, apparently hiding its reiatsu was also a skill that he had mastered, who knows what else he had given up to be the way that he was at the moment, but at this moment it was imminent... fighting this one would not be an easy task.

And there he was, standing in front of him for a split second, tall, skinny Arrancar, his long raven black hair dancing around his body; narrow red eyes stared back at the captain, with piercing gaze, hypnotic and calm, not wild as Byakuya thought at first; his clothes were not white like other Arrancar's, they were all black and tight, covering his hands, his neck, reaching the mask that covered his mouth, and all down to his toes; he wore Shinigami-like sandals, unlike any other Arrancar. His skin was ghostly pale, the contrast almost hurting Byakuya's eyes.

In his left hand was a short Zanpakuto, black as well. It was shaped so that it didn't slow down the user. It looked like a weapon for assassination, which reminded Byakuya of 2nd Division captain. Fast, soundless and sufficient. But the user, to be able to use it, had to come very close to his opponent. And that was the only downside of such a weapon. And that was what Byakuya could - and would - use against him.

Byakuya didn't answer Orochi's question. More or less because he found it unnecessary, a pure waste of his breath. But before Byakuya could've done anything in response, Orochi had already taken his action. He did it without Byakuya giving him an order of any kind. He gritted his teeth and cursed in his mind. Byakuya would never permit himself to say such thing aloud. He was Kuchiki Byakuya after all. An action of that kind was out of the question.

But before captain could give any command to Senbonzakura while Orochi tried to distract the enemy, the Arrancar was already gone. As hard as it was for Byakuya, he had to admit that the difference between his and Arrancar's speed was big. And it was a problem.

Orochi and Byakuya had to outsmart him. Even though Byakuya was a captain, a highly skilled and one of the best, he still couldn't beat him alone. But what were they to do?

'...had to be used at close range.' That's it. The downside. Byakuya recalled how Arrancar's Zanpakuto looked like. And that downside was about to bring the enemy down, Byakuya decided. The only thing was, it would be hard to use Senbonzakura's released form in that situation. Plus, the captain was all wet. The weight of the soaked clothes and the cold wind slowed him down. He was definitely at lost.

"Kin Orochi." Byakuya's eyes snapped to the Shinigami. You are to act as a bait was what noble was about to say, but in the blink of an eye, Arrancar appeared behind him. And then a stirring pain filled Byakuya's body, as the Arrancar managed to pierce his right lung. If Byakuya hadn't used shunpo, it would have been his heart Arrancar would have pierced. A bulls-eye. There was no way to use Senbonzakura, so the next thing noble did was called it back to sealed form.

In a split second, Byakuya, instead of Orochi, became the bait without even realizing it. The bait that was almost eaten up without catching the fish. And now Orochi watched as Byakuya's butt was being kicked around. That he could not allow to continue. His pride was at steak, and not only his and his family's pride, but his own life as well. He was wounded, he was wet, he body was freezing. Everything possible was going downhill. His lips lost their color, and under the narrowed blue eyes appeared purple bags. His breaths were shallow. But he was still stronger and was still prepared for fight than any other above average Shinigami.

Strategy. That was what they needed. And Arrancar knew it as well. And he just didn't want to give them a chance to work on it. His eyes focused on Orochi, while he listened for any sounds of the Arrancar.

Time. The time is what we need at the moment. It was crucial for solving this situation. He needed to collect his thoughts.

In a split second, orochi who had attempted to become the bait had been freed form such duty, instead, Byakuya, the captain had been the one to turn into the bait.

Most likely the arrancar had realized that he had a better chance surviving orochi's attacks rather than Byakuya's. And in a way, that would have been true, Zenbonsakura, Kuchiki's zanpakutou was likely the one with the ability to catch up to this assaulter had Orochi been the bait. However, now that seemed to be out of the question, orochi had to think fast.

If it was him in danger rather than the captain, Then orochi would have probably just allowed himself to be hit, but risking the captain's life in his own pride, that was not something he was about to do.

It was not time for him to even care what others would think if they knew that he had a shikai or not.

"Sekka suru, hebishi!"

Orochi's zanpakutou grew a silver snake head, and a silver slender body as the blade, he had no reason to hold back now. The enemy would learn to literally regret his decision, for once released, Orochi's zanpakutou forced the enemy to likely fight without looking.

he snake slithered in the air as orochi attempted to hit the enemy with his shikai, the enemy however was a fast one, and had ended up dodging orochi's attempted attack, quickly reappearing behind him and literally counter attacking.

The arrancar's blade connected against orochi's waist, cutting into his body, he had barely escaped having his vital organ's skewered, of course, what else could he expect, even Kuchiki Taichou was having a hard time keeping up with this guy's speed.

"Kuchiki Tauchou, please refrain to looking into my shikai's eyes..." orochi quickly said.

Orochi's shikai had retracted by now, and it coiled around orochi's body, almost as if it was having a protective stance. The head snake's eyes then opened. If the arrancar ever set gaze upon his zanpakutou's eyes, it would literally petrify.

Before Orochi could even do anything else, The arrancar had disappeared.
